Textbook: Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 Digital Classroom, by Jeremy Osborn, ISBN 0470410922.
Materials: You need 2 disks (such as USB Flash drive, CD, or hard disk) for your work and your back-up, one of which can be brought to class as needed. And you may need 1 other disk (CD, floppy, USB Flash drive) to turn in work (such as the final project, if asked to). Making back-ups is a requirement!
Computer Lab Hours (MLK-219 Lab): Mon-Thur 7:00am - 9:00pm, Fri 7:00am - 3:00pm, subject to change. You have 18 hours of free lab usage. Contact your instructor if you use up those hours and need more.
Course Description: Introduction to Web site creation using Dreamweaver, including lists, navigation, tables, forms, behaviors, libraries, templates, CSS, site management, and testing.
Student Learning Outcomes:Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to use Dreamweaver's features to…
Prerequisites: No required classes officially, but it is highly recommended that you be familiar and skilled with Windows and Internet surfing. The ability to manage files (download files, copy files, rename files, create folders, etc.) will be needed in this class.
Grading Criteria: Grades will be assigned according to the following point system.
|
|
Note: Student grade records are kept by the instructor for grading inquiries for 2 years.
To Use Your Own Computer: You must have Internet access, and proper installations of Internet Explorer 6 or higher, and either Firefox 1 or higher. You also need a computer capable of running the Dreamweaver CS4 software. You will also be required to watch Quicktime videos and create and print web pages and printscreens. If you do not have all that is needed, you can use the MLK 219 computer lab.
Internet Access & Usage: Internet access is required to work with various resources for this class, such as handouts, assignments, downloads, etc. You may also be required to create a new free e-mail and/or Web hosting account to publish (FTP) your Web site projects.
Attendance: You are required to attend lectures for the full duration of each class and to participate in class discussions. Failure to attend more than 3 classes is considered excessive and you will be dropped. Showing up to say "hello I'm here but I have to go" or entering or leaving at the break time (or other similar attempts) do not qualify as attendance. History indicates that there is a strong correlation between your attendance and your success. Take this class only if you plan to attend regularly and completely. If you wish to drop, you should officially submit a drop card to admissions or risk receiving an F.
Classroom Behavior: Behavior that distracts students or the instructor impairs the learning environment and won’t be tolerated. Distractions include talking, typing, eating, snoring, music, pagers, and cell phones (also known as "weapons of mass disruption")! First you’ll be asked to stop, then to leave, and then, if necessary, you’ll be dropped from the class. Please take this policy seriously and help enhance the class experience!
Disabled Student Services: If you have a physical, psychiatric, emotional, medical, or learning disability that may impact your success in this class, contact Disabled Student Services. They will review your concerns and determine with you confidentially what accommodations, if any, are appropriate.
Assignments And Final Project: Most of your grade comes from your work on these items. They all involve creating Web pages and/or Web sites using Dreamweaver and turning in your work. Assignments are done outside of class and are based on the lessons in the text book. Due dates are listed on the attached calendar. Assignments can be turned in late with point deductions as given in a later section. Each assignment’s instructions are given on separate handouts and are also discussed further in class. The final project is a separate Web site but will include some work that was done on the assignments, so keep all assignment work on disk for the duration of the course. You must do your own original work on all assignments and the final project! The Student Handbook's "standards of student conduct" is strictly enforced. Two or more people turning in “identically flawed” or “similar beyond a reasonable doubt” work violates this policy, and results in 0 scores for all involved. See the Assignment #0 document for more on how "academic honesty" applies to this class.
Exams: The exams may include true/false, multiple-choice, and/or timed work on a computer with Dreamweaver. Midterm exams are given during regular class time. The final covers all course material but emphasizes material after the last midterm. See the attached schedule for exam dates and times. Missing the final exam results in an F grade. The student handbook's "standards of student conduct" regarding cheating is strictly enforced, with violations resulting in 0 scores. Exams & assignments not picked up during the semester are available from the instructor for only 1 semester after the completion of this course.
Late Assignments and Missed Exams: Excusal from a missed exam or late assignment requires official written documentation of your illness or emergency. If you miss an exam, you must call (909-222-8310) to leave a message the day of the exam. Failure to schedule a makeup exam prior to the next class meeting results in loss of points. Turn in an assignment only if it is complete or if you are finished with it. Assignments are due at the start of class on the due date and otherwise is considered late. Don’t wait until the next class meeting to turn in late work -- use the city campus computer lab (MLK-219) when it is complete and ask the lab instructor on duty to “time stamp” it and leave it in the file cabinet for me to pick up. On the first page of the assignment, include your name, my name (McLeod), the class (CIS-76B), the assignment number, and an official lab "time stamp" indicating when it was turned in. Assignments without time stamps are stamped upon pick up. Assignments time stamped during class are late. Do not turn in assignments to mailboxes! Assignments are not accepted via email. Late assignments lose points as indicated below.
For further information on assignments, exams, and lateness policy, see the handout entitled "Assignment 0" which is required reading before you begin any assignment work or take any exam in this class.
